Adopt a Soldier

“Never in the face of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to so few.” Winston Churchill Stalybridge lost so many. Our War Memorial reminds all generations of the cost in lives, blood and tears of war. BUT nearly 300 men are missing The Friends of Stalybridge War Memorial and Tameside Local History Forum aim to rectify this with an extension to the existing memorial. The proposed extension will be sympathetic in style and include space to honor those from recent conflicts. To build the extension we will need to raise £100,000There are many ways to do this but we are asking for your ideas for sponsors, fund raisers and activities. Please use the comments below to fill with ideas. We do not just need your ideas, but action too. Will you help ?Will your community group, block of houses, church, shop, family etc take one name and raise £300 for the sacrifice the soldier and his family made for your town. If you can help contact Frank Smith 0161 330 8675 or email stalybridgetown@gmail.com and we will pass your details on.

Following our aim to raise money to get the 300 missing men on our Stalybridge War Memorial, we are proud to announce that in the local businesses in our community have raised £567.39. We would like to give special thanks to the following shops we have collected from so far for their efforts in raising the money and being a part of the campaign.

We couldn’t be more grateful to the local businesses and customers raising the money for the soldiers.
